India has set a 30.3 million tonne wheat procurement target for the 2026-27 Rabi season, with production projected at 120 million tonnes due to record sowing and favorable weather. FCI stocks are expected to reach 18.2 million tonnes by April 1, 2026. The government lifted a four-year wheat export ban in February, allowing 2.5 million tonnes of wheat and 500,000 tonnes of wheat products to be exported. Pilot programs for improved rice with up to 10% broken grains are underway in five states, and a QR code tagging system for foodgrain packaging, tested in Andhra Pradesh, is being expanded.
