India funds ₹99 lakh project to develop antidotes for nerve-damaging chemicals.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation has awarded Bharathiar University in Coimbatore a ₹99.15 lakh, 36-month grant to develop new antidotes for toxic organophosphorous compounds, which can severely damage the nervous system.
Led by Dr N Jayakumar and Dr S Suja, the project will use biochemical and pharmacological methods under the DIA-CoE to identify effective treatments.
The research aims to enhance India’s chemical defence and public health readiness.
