Disney has canceled its live-action "Robin Hood" remake for Disney+, citing a shift toward theatrical releases.
Disney’s live-action remake of its 1973 animated "Robin Hood," directed by Carlos López Estrada and set for Disney+, has been canceled, with Estrada confirming the project is "dead."
The film, in development since 2020, was to feature photorealistic animation, original music, and a fresh take on the classic tale with anthropomorphic characters.
Estrada expressed disappointment, noting the project had a unique vision and creative team, including writer Kari Granlund.
The cancellation reflects Disney’s broader shift from streaming-exclusive remakes to theatrical releases, following mixed results from recent live-action adaptations.
While the project is shelved, Estrada said he may pursue the story independently.
