David Griffiths got a 15-month suspended prison sentence for attacking a man outside a Dublin bar in 2021.
A man has been given a fully suspended 15-month prison sentence for a "ferocious and unprovoked" assault outside Conor McGregor’s Black Forge Inn in Dublin on September 4, 2021.
The defendant, David Griffiths, pleaded guilty to assault with intent to cause bodily harm after attacking a man on a work outing, leaving him with facial injuries, a bleeding nose, a lacerated lip, and swelling.
CCTV footage and Garda evidence confirmed the attack, which rendered the victim unconscious.
Griffiths, who lives in California with a green card and has no prior convictions, cited personal trauma and alcohol use following his brother’s suicide.
A €5,000 gesture of remorse was accepted, but no formal victim impact statement was submitted.
Despite arguments that a conviction would be devastating, the judge declined to defer the sentence and imposed a full suspension, noting probation was not feasible due to his overseas residence.
