Arizona Gov. Hobbs vetoed a bill for a Charlie Kirk license plate, calling it politicizing government.
Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs vetoed a bill creating a specialty license plate honoring Charlie Kirk, the late conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder, citing concerns that it politicized a nonpartisan government function.
The plate, which would have cost $25 with $17 annually funding youth education on patriotism and free speech, passed the Senate but stalled in the House.
Republicans criticized the veto as ideological, arguing it undermined efforts to honor a civil rights advocate.
A separate bill to rename a stretch of Loop 202 the “Charlie Kirk Loop” remains pending in the House.
