This will integrate federal oversight for projects on federal land while allowing Alberta to lead environmental and impact assessments for projects under its jurisdiction. While preserving environmental safeguards and Indigenous rights, the agreement seeks to decrease delays, improve regulatory certainty, and increase investment in energy, transportation, and vital minerals. The agreement comes amid negotiations on industrial carbon pricing and methane emissions regulations, and it follows ongoing legal challenges to federal environmental laws. Finalization is anticipated following a public consultation period from March 6 to 27.
