A women's assistant coach in Australia was fired after a video revealed her making offensive remarks about female players' bodies and weight.
The Collingullie-Wagga Demons, a regional Australian football club, terminated its association with a women's assistant coach after a video surfaced showing the coach making offensive, body-shaming remarks about female players, including linking a player’s mobility to her weight and having four children.
The incident occurred during a February 27 match in the AFL Riverina League.
The club’s president, Noel Penfold, said the comments were regrettable and not reflective of the club’s values, confirming the coach was immediately removed and the head coach, Stephen Carroll, who was not in the video, remains in place.
The AFL and AFL Riverina condemned the remarks, stating they do not align with the sport’s values, and confirmed an investigation is underway.
The women’s team is expected to play its scheduled match against North Wagga.
