Venus Williams lost in the first round of Indian Wells to 111th-ranked Diane Parry, marking her third straight first-round exit in 2026.
Seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams, 45, was defeated in the first round of the Indian Wells tournament by French qualifier Diane Parry, ranked 111th, in a three-set match ending 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1.
Playing on a wild card, Williams fought back from a set and break down to force a third set but was unable to sustain momentum as Parry dominated the final set.
The loss marks Williams’s third first-round exit in 2026, following defeats at the Australian Open and in Austin, Texas.
Parry will face 15th-seeded American Madison Keys in the next round.
Meanwhile, Grigor Dimitrov advanced past Terence Atmane to set up a second-round clash with top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz, who remains undefeated in 2026.
Other top players, including Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Coco Gauff, and Iga Świątek, began their campaigns.
