UW-Stout gets $19M federal grant to sustain Wisconsin’s manufacturing support program.
The University of Wisconsin-Stout has received a $19 million federal grant over five years to lead Wisconsin’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership, ensuring continued support for small and mid-sized manufacturers.
The funding, from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology, will enable UW-Stout’s Manufacturing Outreach Center to coordinate services with the Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership, maintaining support after the dissolution of the Wisconsin Center for Manufacturing and Productivity.
The program offers assistance in lean manufacturing, quality systems, supply chain efficiency, workforce development, and emerging technologies like AI.
With a 30-year history, it has helped create or retain over 34,000 jobs and generate $8.9 billion in economic impact, serving more than 575 manufacturers annually.
Manufacturing contributes $71.6 billion to Wisconsin’s economy and employs about 15% of the workforce.
