USPS may run out of money by Feb 2027 without Congress lifting borrowing limits and allowing postage hikes.

Postal Service could run out of cash by February 2027 unless Congress lifts a $15 billion borrowing cap, Postmaster General David Steiner warned, citing a $9 billion net loss in fiscal year 2025 despite a 1.2% revenue gain.
Steiner, who took over in July 2025, said the agency, which delivers mail six days a week without federal appropriations, cannot sustain operations without immediate legislative action to raise borrowing limits and allow postage increases—such as raising the first-class stamp to 95 cents.
He urged reforms to pension and health benefits, greater pricing flexibility, and a national conversation on funding universal mail delivery.
