UK leaders urge faster action on gender pay gap, citing caregiving impacts and slow progress.
Baroness Karren Brady has called for accelerated efforts to close the UK’s gender pay gap, which was 6.9% for full-time workers in April 2025, with women aged 50–59 facing a 19.7% gap.
Speaking in the House of Lords, she highlighted how caregiving responsibilities disproportionately impact women’s earnings, equating to 72 days of unpaid work annually, and criticized workplace systems that favor uninterrupted careers.
Former TUC chief Baroness Frances O’Grady stressed that expanded paid parental and paternity leave could speed progress, warning that at current rates, closing the gap could take 30 years.
