Two women arrested at Sydney Airport for smuggling 38kg of methamphetamine from Singapore face life imprisonment.
A 35-year-old New Zealander and Australian woman were arrested at Sydney Airport in December after allegedly smuggling 38 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in suitcases.
The pair, arriving from Singapore, were selected for a targeted inspection, during which officers found vacuum-sealed bags of the drug hidden under towels.
Both were charged with importing a commercial quantity of methamphetamine, punishable by life imprisonment, and were due in court.
Authorities said the seizure disrupted a major trafficking operation and highlighted ongoing efforts to combat organized crime using intelligence-led border checks.
