Two top MPD officials, including the second-in-command, are on leave over alleged crime stats manipulation, amid broader scrutiny of data practices.
Two top Metropolitan Police Department officials, Executive Assistant Chief Andre Wright and his wife, Inspector Natasha Wright, have been placed on paid administrative leave following an internal investigation into alleged manipulation of crime statistics.
Wright, the department’s second-in-command, had his gun and badge removed, and his cellphone was seized, with investigators reportedly finding “inappropriate messages.” The probe stems from a U.S. Department of Justice draft memo alleging widespread misclassification of serious crimes, including pressure to downplay violent incidents.
The department declined to comment, citing ongoing personnel matters.
The incident occurs amid broader scrutiny of MPD’s data reporting practices, including a House Oversight Committee report and a separate DOJ review.
Wright has previously faced allegations of misconduct, including relationships with subordinates and drinking on duty, though he denies abusing his authority.
