PSNI chief says no need to return to 50-50 Catholic/non-Catholic recruitment, citing low Catholic hiring and rejecting calls for inquiry into surveillance.
PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher said the force doesn’t need to return to a 50-50 Catholic and non-Catholic recruitment target, though he left the door open for future reconsideration.
He cited the lowest Catholic recruitment rate in over a decade, despite strong overall response to a recent campaign, and stressed the need for community leaders to encourage underrepresented groups.
Boutcher emphasized zero tolerance for misconduct and rejected calls for a public inquiry into police surveillance of journalist Vincent Kearney, citing an independent review that found no systemic failures.
The 50-50 policy, ended in 2011, was originally introduced after the Patten reforms to diversify the force.
El jefe de la PSNI dice que no hay necesidad de volver al reclutamiento católico/no católico de 50-50, citando la baja contratación católica y rechazando las llamadas para investigar la vigilancia.
