The Marshall Islands Marine Resources Authority (MIMRA) has spent years building a "Competent Authority" to enforce fisheries rules, improve food safety, and implement 100% satellite tracking of tuna transshipments.
Supported by the Forum Fisheries Agency and lessons from EU-certified Pacific nations, MIMRA conducted a remote audit in December focusing on illegal fishing prevention and hygiene standards.
While no official outcome has been released as of early March 2026, MIMRA remains confident in its compliance and expects future on-site evaluations.
Success would open access to the EU’s large seafood market, a key economic goal for the nation.
