A 26-year-old man was attacked with a bike chain in Surry Hills, Sydney, on Wednesday afternoon in an incident police describe as a random assault intended to result in murder. The victim escaped, sustained injuries requiring hospital treatment, and authorities arrested 35-year-old Michael Charles Jarvis on Thursday. He faces charges including attempted murder, assault, stalking, and intimidation. Jarvis was remanded in custody after not appearing in court Friday, with his lawyer not requesting bail. Prosecutors must file the brief of evidence by May 6, when the case is scheduled to return. He is not required to enter a plea and may apply for bail before the next hearing.
