A 30-year-old Lagos man has been arrested for allegedly selling his one-month-old niece for 2 million Nigerian naira, claiming the money was needed to pay for his mother’s burial. He said he arranged the sale via Facebook, handed the child over at Mile 2, and transferred the money to his account, giving his sister 500,000 naira. His sister later denied involvement, saying she was misled and manipulated, and reported him. The suspect admitted the act but said he no longer knows the buyer’s identity. The case has been referred to Lagos State’s Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
