Kerala RTO staff protested new promotion rules by working late to demand fair advancement opportunities.
Employees at Kerala’s Regional Transport Offices extended their workday to 8 p.m. on March 6, 2026, in a protest against revised promotion rules that limit advancement opportunities for ministerial staff in the Motor Vehicles Department.
Organized by the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department Staff Association, the action, dubbed "work more in rights," aimed to draw attention to changes that tie Senior Superintendent promotions to the elevation of eight Motor Vehicle Inspectors, drastically reducing eligibility.
Staff, including women, continued working to maintain public services while highlighting what they call unfair reforms.
All RTOs across the state participated in the coordinated effort.
