Kenya seeks to bar corruption-impeached candidates from 2027 polls, even during appeals.
Kenya’s Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is pushing for constitutional changes to bar individuals impeached or convicted of corruption from running in the 2027 general election, even while appeals are pending.
The EACC argues that current laws allow such candidates to remain on ballots, undermining integrity, and recommends amending Articles 99 and 193 to ensure disqualifications take effect until overturned.
The commission also calls for clearer roles in candidate vetting, standardized timelines, and better data sharing between the EACC, IEBC, and other agencies to strengthen election integrity ahead of 2027.
