Skyroot Aerospace, an Indian startup founded by former ISRO engineers, is preparing to launch Vikram-1, India’s first privately built orbital rocket, targeting dedicated, flexible missions for small satellites.
Named after space pioneer Vikram Sarabhai, the 75-foot rocket features solid-fuel stages and a liquid-engine orbit adjuster, designed to carry up to 300 kg.
Key components are at Sriharikota, with final integration underway ahead of a planned Q1 2026 launch.
The company, which raised nearly $100 million and achieved success with its 2022 sub-orbital Vikram-S launch, aims to become India’s first spacetech unicorn and expand to monthly launches from a new private pad in Kulasekarapattinam by March 2026.
