Indiana enacts 40 new laws, including immigration enforcement, public sleeping bans, and school cellphone restrictions, set to take effect July 1.
Indiana Governor Mike Braun signed 40 bills into law, including measures requiring local police to cooperate with federal immigration detainers, penalizing businesses that hire unauthorized workers, and banning sleeping in public spaces statewide.
The laws also restrict student cellphone use in schools, mandate English instruction in public schools, and require townships to merge.
Two bills—on syringe exchange programs and cryptocurrency ATMs—remain unsigned and could become law unless vetoed by Monday.
Many provisions take effect July 1.
