India targets tech growth in eight mid-sized cities to ease metro overcrowding and boost regional economies.

India is advancing a tech-driven growth strategy for eight Tier-II cities, including Jaipur, Lucknow, and Indore, to reduce reliance on overcrowded Tier-I metros. The Growth Interface for Tech Advocacy (G.I.T.A.) has identified sectoral strengths like biotech, health-tech, agritech, and water management in these cities, aiming to turn them into Regional Economic Centres. The initiative supports government plans for City Economic Regions and promotes collaboration among governments, academia, and industry to achieve tech development milestones. The effort seeks to boost underdeveloped states’ tech capacity and expand global capability centers in healthcare, agriculture, and data infrastructure.
