India’s vegetarian thali prices held steady despite rising tomatoes, while non-veg thali prices fell 3% due to cheaper chicken.
In February 2026, the cost of a vegetarian thali in India remained unchanged year-on-year, while non-vegetarian thali prices fell 3%, according to Crisil Intelligence’s Roti Rice Rate report. Rising tomato prices—up 43% due to delayed transplantation and lower crop arrivals—offset declines in onion, potato, and pulse costs, stabilizing veg thali prices. Non-veg thali reductions were driven by a 7% drop in broiler chicken prices, though higher feed costs and strong demand caused a 2% month-on-month rise. Vegetable oil and LPG prices also increased, limiting overall savings. Month-on-month, both thali types declined—5% for veg and 1% for non-veg—due to lower vegetable prices.
