A trailblazer as the first Black female news anchor at WJTV, she later became a professor and department chair at JSU, where she was reappointed to the Mississippi State Board of Health.
In 2023, she made history as the first Black woman to lead JSU as interim president and the first journalism educator to head the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters.
She was widely recognized for her leadership in education, media, and public service, mentoring generations of students and shaping Mississippi’s communications landscape.
She is survived by her husband, son, and grandson.
