Tributes have poured in from the culinary world, including from fellow chef Jean-Christophe Novelli, who described Wheeler as an extraordinary, kind, and generous man, calling him a lifelong friend and “rock” since discovering him as a 16-year-old student.
Wheeler, a native of Swanage, Dorset, trained in France and worked at Michelin-starred kitchens before becoming head chef at Humphry’s in Stoke Park, which earned three AA rosettes.
He also contributed to films like Layer Cake and Casino Royale by baking featured cakes.
His legacy as a creative, passionate, and compassionate chef endures.
