BJP and Congress demand attendance for Budget Session's second phase, March 9–11.
The ruling BJP and opposition Congress have issued a three-line whip demanding attendance of their Lok Sabha MPs from March 9 to 11 for the second phase of the 2026 Budget Session, which runs through April 2. The session, beginning January 28 with the President’s address, faced disruptions in its first phase, including suspensions of eight opposition members over decorum breaches and a no-confidence notice against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who announced he would not preside until the matter is resolved. The Finance Minister presented the Union Budget 2026-27, and the Motion of Thanks passed without Prime Minister Modi’s reply. The Rajya Sabha will reconvene on March 9, with elections for 37 seats across 10 states scheduled for March 16, with vote counting on the same day.
