UK's social care system called "horrendous" by top official, urging national reform.
Baroness Louise Casey, chair of the UK’s independent commission on adult social care, called the current system "horrendous," citing widespread confusion, delays, and inadequate support for vulnerable people, especially those with dementia and Motor Neurone Disease.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4, she criticized underpaid care workers, fragmented assessments, and power imbalances between the NHS and local councils, warning the system is unsustainable without a national, cross-party effort to create a National Care Service.
The commission’s first major findings are expected this year, with long-term funding proposals due in 2028.
