A Texas judge blocked Camp Mystic’s Guadalupe River site reopening to preserve evidence after a 2025 flood killed 27 people.
A Texas judge has issued a temporary restraining order halting the reopening of Camp Mystic’s Guadalupe River site, where 27 campers and counselors died in a July 2025 flash flood.
The order, granted by Judge Maya Guerra Gamble, prevents the camp from using the flood-damaged area or demolishing cabins, preserving evidence for a lawsuit filed by the family of 8-year-old Cecilia “Cile” Steward, who remains missing.
While the Guadalupe River location is closed, the nearby Cypress Lake camp may still open this summer.
The ruling follows claims that the camp failed to evacuate despite the rapid river rise from 14 to 29.5 feet in under an hour, with the family alleging reckless safety practices.
The legal battle continues, with no final decision yet on the camp’s future.
