A Samoan man pleaded guilty to hitting and running over a man he met at a pub, causing severe injuries, in Cardiff, NSW, in January 2025.
A 25-year-old Samoan man, Sulusi Sauaga, pleaded guilty to aggravated dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and failing to stop after a hit-and-run in Cardiff, NSW, on January 16, 2025.
Sauaga, a suspended P-plater who had consumed 14 schooners of beer, ran over a 36-year-old man he had just met at the Iron Horse Inn, causing life-threatening injuries including a traumatic brain injury, collapsed lungs, and facial fractures.
CCTV showed him wrestling the man before driving over him, stopping briefly, turning off his lights, and fleeing through a red light.
The victim was hospitalized for nearly two weeks and underwent multiple surgeries and ongoing rehabilitation.
Sauaga was arrested the next day.
Initial charges of attempted murder and assault were dropped after his guilty plea.
His sentencing is set for April 2026.
