The Philippine government, through the Presidential Communications Office, has launched “Oplan Kontra Fake News” with nine major newspapers, including the Philippine Daily Inquirer and Manila Bulletin, to combat digital disinformation. A new Anti-Fake News Desk will verify misleading content, with confirmed cases referred to the DICT and DOJ. The initiative, led by PCO Acting Secretary Dave M. Gomez, defines fake news as false, deceptive content causing public harm and promotes media literacy. Participating outlets commit to fact-checking and curbing false information, with support from digital platforms like Meta and Google.
