On March 3, 2026, Mizoram received its first Food Corporation of India cargo train at Sairang Station, delivering 25,900 quintals of rice from Punjab via 42 wagons, marking a major advancement in the state’s food grain supply chain.
The shipment follows the 2025 opening of the Bairabi-Sairang rail line, which linked Mizoram to India’s national rail network.
Since then, over 30 freight rakes have transported construction materials, automobiles, and fertilizers, while refrigerated parcel vans and passenger services, including high-occupancy trains and a tourist train, have boosted trade, tourism, and regional connectivity.
