LA City Council passes film reforms to boost local production, fast-track permits, and create a "Made in LA" brand.
The Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved seven reforms under Councilman Adrin Nazarian’s "Keep Hollywood Home" initiative to streamline film and TV production, including fast-tracking soundstage certifications, standardizing permits, creating a free "Micro-Shoot" permit for small crews, and improving coordination with regional jurisdictions.
The measures, aimed at reversing a decline in on-location shoots, follow Mayor Karen Bass’s 2025 executive order to support filming at city landmarks and reduce fees.
The council also directed an audit of the permitting system and the development of a "Made in LA" brand.
While industry leaders praised the changes for enhancing efficiency and competitiveness, Councilwoman Ysabel Jurado raised concerns about impacts on small businesses from unannounced street closures, prompting promises to address community concerns.
