Karnataka's plan to build a stadium on silk factory land sparks protest over threats to production, jobs, and environment.
The Karnataka government plans to build a taluq stadium on five acres of land at the KSIC filature factory in T. Narasipura, despite objections from the KSIC managing director and opposition leader R. Ashoka, who warn the move could disrupt silk production, harm the Mysore silk brand, and violate environmental and industrial land regulations.
While officials, including MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, say the factory will remain operational and the site was chosen after evaluating alternatives, critics argue the project threatens water supply, destroys trees, and jeopardizes hundreds of jobs and thousands of sericulture farmers.
Protests continue, with calls for the stadium to be relocated.
