A Justice Department lawyer was arrested for receiving child abuse material linked to a 2025 FBI probe.
Timothy Parsons, a long-time Justice Department legal staffer in Washington, D.C., has been arrested and charged with receiving child sexual abuse material in a case tied to a 2025 FBI investigation into a former child psychotherapist.
Parsons, who lives in Bethesda, Maryland, is accused of receiving multiple videos and two images in February 2019 and making sexually charged remarks, including saying “That is so hot.” FBI agents searched his home, seizing electronic devices; an initial review found no explicit content, but a full forensic exam is pending.
He is on leave from the Justice Department, has been appointed a federal public defender, and is scheduled to appear in court in Greenbelt, Maryland.
The department confirmed his leave and said standard disciplinary procedures will follow.
Parsons has not entered a plea, and the case remains under investigation.
