Isaac Johnston returns to lead restoration of England’s highest nature reserve, reviving 3,000 acres with native species and community support.
Isaac Johnston, who started as a Cumbria Wildlife Trust apprentice in 2016, has returned as project officer for Skiddaw Forest, England’s highest nature reserve.
He is advancing a 100-year plan to restore 3,000 acres of habitat, including peat bogs and Atlantic rainforest, using native trees grown from local seeds.
The effort, backed by a £1.25 million campaign and partner funding, includes fencing upgrades, community outreach, and seed collection.
The reserve was acquired with support from thousands of donors, enabling large-scale ecological restoration.
