On International Women’s Day, Aboriginal women and others in Tamworth, NSW, gathered for the Bumbira Arts and Culture event, a healing-focused program featuring traditional weaving, meditation, a smoking ceremony, art activities, and wellness services.
Led by project officers Charlie Abra, Tess Reading, and Charissa Swan, the event emphasized emotional wellbeing, connection to country, and community through creative expression and mindfulness.
Participants used art and relaxation techniques to process emotions, with staff noting the therapeutic impact of gentle touch and cultural practices.
While primarily for Aboriginal women aged 15 and over, non-Indigenous women were also welcome.
