Gerald Ovitt, facing felony charges, allegedly threatened an acquaintance with a rifle via text and photo, violating a prior protection order.
Gerald L. Ovitt Jr., 54, of Greenfield, faces multiple felony charges including criminal possession of a weapon and aggravated harassment after allegedly threatening an acquaintance with a semi-automatic rifle via text and photo.
Police responded to a harassment complaint, found the firearm and ammunition, and arrested Ovitt, who resisted.
He was in illegal possession of the weapon despite an extreme-risk protection order issued in January following prior threats, including one about "washing out with buckshot."
That incident followed a dispute over truck repairs and led to discovery of a stolen shotgun and a mental health evaluation.
Ovitt was arraigned and is being held in Saratoga County Jail; authorities are investigating how he obtained the rifle.
