Canadian tourist arrested in Las Vegas for injuring a flamingo, claims he was helping it.
Mitchell Fairbarn, a 33-year-old Canadian tourist, was arrested at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on March 3, 2026, on four felony counts of animal abuse after allegedly breaking into a flamingo enclosure, injuring a Chilean flamingo named Peachy, and attempting to take the bird to his room.
Surveillance footage showed him grabbing the bird, injuring it, and dragging it through hotel corridors.
He admitted to trespassing, claiming he believed he was helping the distressed bird by “popping” its wing back into place.
Police found evidence in his room, including bloody feathers and videos of the incident.
The bird and others in the habitat are under veterinary care and expected to recover.
Fairbarn, who posted $12,000 bail, faces charges and is scheduled for a court appearance on March 9.
