Bangladesh tribunal to rule April 9, 2026, in case over student Abu Sayed’s 2024 killing during protest.
The International Crimes Tribunal-2 in Bangladesh has set April 9, 2026, to deliver its verdict in a case stemming from the July 2024 killing of student Abu Sayed during the anti-discrimination movement.
The tribunal, led by Justice Nazrul Islam Mazumder, charged 30 individuals, including former university officials and police personnel, with crimes against humanity.
Arrest warrants were issued for 26 fugitives, including a former vice-chancellor and police commissioner, following a probe report submitted on June 24, 2025.
The prosecution alleges that on July 16, 2024, a proctor and Chhatra League activists expelled students, after which police shot Sayed at close range.
The case began after Sayed’s family filed a complaint in January 2025.
