Three Istrouma High School staff members, including the principal, a teacher, and an office clerk, were placed on leave after an 18-year-old student accidentally fired a modified Glock 45—capable of automatic fire—in a classroom.
The gun, which was stolen and hidden in a ceiling tile, discharged when the student adjusted it in his pants.
The student, a senior and star basketball player, was arrested on multiple charges, including illegal possession of a firearm and carrying a weapon on school property.
The school district confirmed the staff were placed on leave as part of standard procedure during the ongoing investigation, though the principal has since returned to work.
