UN urges protection for Middle East children amid school strike allegations in Iran.
UN experts have urged immediate protection for children in the Middle East conflict, condemning reports of an air strike on a school in Minab, Iran, which Iran claims killed over 150 people, including students.
While Israel and the U.S. have not confirmed the attack, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child expressed alarm over strikes on schools and hospitals, stressing that children must never be considered collateral damage.
The committee called for an immediate ceasefire, protection of civilian infrastructure, and humanitarian access, emphasizing children’s rights under the 1990 Convention on the Rights of the Child, which the U.S. has not ratified.
The recommendations are non-binding but carry significant moral weight.
