Spokane County Fire District 9 is launching its own emergency medical transport service on July 1, 2026, after acquiring three new ambulances. The shift from private provider American Medical Response aims to improve access to care in the north Spokane area, particularly in Mead. The district will waive fees for local residents, bill insurance or Medicaid when available, and not pursue payment from uninsured patients. The vehicles, delivered after 235 days of planning, are being readied for service to enhance response times and public safety.
