Sixteen people died in a head-on collision between a Ford Transit bus and an ambulance near Potrikrom in Ghana’s Ashanti Region on March 3, 2026.
The bus, traveling from Kumasi to Bechem, was carrying 16 passengers, all of whom perished.
The ambulance, believed to be from St. Mary’s Catholic Hospital in Drobo, was en route to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and may have been overtaking another vehicle when the crash occurred, likely due to excessive speed.
The accident, which left both vehicles severely damaged, prompted a full investigation, with the bodies taken to Mankranso and Adugyama mortuaries for identification.
Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene expressed condolences, and authorities continue to assess the cause.
