Six students from NC and SC advanced to the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee after regional competition in Charlotte.
Six students from North Carolina and South Carolina advanced to the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee after competing at a two-day regional event in Charlotte hosted by the Carolina Panthers.
The competition included 110 students from grades three through eight across 58 school districts.
South Carolina’s top spellers were Manha Shaik and Salonee Biraber from Oakridge Middle School in Clover.
North Carolina’s qualifiers were Phaneendra Bulusu of Concord, Harini Jayakumar of Mooresville, and two students from Wake County—Sach Akella and Kushi Gottimukkala.
All six will compete in the national tournament in Washington, D.C.
