A Singaporean ex-actor, awaiting appeal on a driving conviction, is allowed to travel to China and Japan under strict conditions.
Edmund Chen, a 65-year-old former Singaporean actor, has been granted permission to travel to China and Japan while awaiting his appeal on a driving conviction.
The State Courts approved his trips—March 17–26 to China for business and April 15–May 3 to Japan, possibly for his son’s wedding—under conditions including a $10,000 bail increase, passport surrender upon return, and ongoing contact with investigators.
Chen was convicted in January 2026 of causing a collision that injured a motorcyclist, leading to a five-day jail sentence and a five-year driving ban, both stayed in February.
His appeal remains pending.
