Saddam Hussein was executed by hanging in 2006 for crimes against humanity in the Dujail massacre.
Saddam Hussein was executed by hanging on December 30, 2006, at Camp Justice in Baghdad, following a conviction for crimes against humanity in the 1982 Dujail massacre.
Denied his request for a firing squad, he ate a final meal of chicken, rice, and honey, carried a Qur’an, and recited the Shahada as he was led to the gallows before dawn on Eid al-Adha.
Witnesses reported taunts and chants supporting Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, but Saddam remained composed, stating he felt no fear and had dedicated his life to resistance.
His final words were reportedly “The Muslim Ummah will be victorious.” His body was buried in his hometown of Tikrit.
