Rep. Zac Ista won't run for re-election in 2026 to spend more time with his young children.
Rep. Zac Ista, North Dakota’s Democratic-NPL House minority leader from Grand Forks, has announced he will not seek re-election in 2026, citing the need to spend more time with his young children.
Ista, who has served since 2020 after being appointed to fill a vacancy and re-elected in 2022, said the demanding legislative schedule and four-hour commute from Grand Forks made family life difficult.
He highlighted key accomplishments, including a bill providing lifetime health insurance for families of fallen first responders and efforts to expand universal school lunches.
The Democratic-NPL Party will soon name a candidate for the open seat, with Ista expressing confidence in the process and pledging to support the party’s values moving forward.
El representante Zac Ista no se postulará a la reelección en 2026 para pasar más tiempo con sus hijos pequeños.
