Nigeria’s ports recorded a 24.8% surge in cargo throughput in 2025, reaching 129.3 million metric tons, according to the Nigerian Ports Authority, marking one of the strongest annual gains in the country’s maritime history.
The increase was driven by a 205.8% rise in transshipment, strong export growth, and a 25.7% jump in containerized cargo.
Lekki Port led in volume, handling 40.6% of total cargo, while overall ship calls rose nearly 12%.
The NPA attributed the growth to port modernization, infrastructure upgrades, and the rollout of the National Single Window system, which are improving efficiency and positioning Nigeria as a key regional logistics hub.
