Matthew Ure, 32, has pleaded guilty to charges related to a January 2025 high-speed police chase in Newcastle after stealing a Ford Everest.
The pursuit, lasting over 30 minutes, involved reckless driving, red light violations, and collisions that seriously injured a motorbike rider and overturned a police paddy wagon.
Ure fled and was arrested two months later at Newcastle East train sheds, where police found a backpack containing a shortened firearm, ammunition, weapons, drugs, and cash.
He admitted to aggravated dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, police pursuit, and firearm possession, with additional charges pending.
A passenger, Aarron James Forster, 26, was arrested and denies involvement; his trial is pending.
Ure is set to be sentenced in March 2026.
