India’s Lakshya Sen upset top seed and defending champion Shi Yuqi of China in the men’s singles first round of the 2026 All England Open, winning 23-21, 19-21, 21-17 in 1 hour and 18 minutes.
The 24-year-old Indian, a former finalist in 2022, overcame a late rally in the first game and fought back from a 13-19 deficit in the second before dominating the third with strong net play.
His win marked his first victory over Shi in individual competition.
Sen advanced to the second round, along with India’s mixed doubles pair Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto, who defeated Malaysia’s Hoo Peng Ron and Cheng Su Yin.
Malvika Bansod was eliminated in women’s singles, losing 21-11, 21-6 to China’s Chen Yu Fei.
The tournament took place in Birmingham, UK, on March 3, 2026.
